    The Department of Health dashboard reported 1,083 new cases in the past 24 hours with the number of people testing positive over the past seven days now at 4,437.     Health Minister Robin Swann said, “We have seen the numbers climb in recent weeks but today’s spike in cases is cause for concern. “This is the first time since January that we’re reporting a daily change of over 1,000 positive cases. “And while we are in a more fortunate position with a large proportion of the population now vaccinated we must remain cautious. “We need everyone to play their part in helping to stop the spread of the virus.

    Detective Sergeant David Stewart says, “We received a report of a robbery at a shop in the Duke Street area of the town around 6.30 pm.      “The shop was empty when the suspect entered through an open door, brandishing a knife and shouting that he wanted money.  “Two women were working in the shop at the time. “And one of them handed over cash to him while he continued to threaten her with the knife. “He then fled the premises.     “While the two women were physically unharmed during the incident, it was a frightening experience for them both,” he continues. Police are very keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the male suspect in the Duke Street area between 6 pm and 6.30 pm on Friday 16 July 2021.

    The current process is transitioning to the planned CCS (COVID Certification Service) and the first phase commenced over the weekend for all new COVID Certificate requests.     Anyone travelling from Northern Ireland between 20 July and 25 July 2021 will now be able to access a downloadable certificate and QR code which offers security against fraud. The updated process will make it easier and quicker for people to access their certificate, removing the need to collect them in person. Anyone travelling after 25 July should wait on the launch of the app which will be available next week.    Further details will follow, advising you when to apply.

Newry burglaries: Police appeal for information after four homes targeted | Newry Times | Latest Newry News, Newry Sport and Newry Business for Newry City

    Reports were received on Friday morning of four burglaries at houses at Ballydogherty Road and Brown Moss Road in Loughgilly, and at Latt Road and Armagh Road in Newry.     It is believed that three males were involved in the burglaries and that they were travelling in a white Volkswagen Scirocco. That vehicle has since been located abandoned across the border in the Ravensdale area.     The three males were wearing dark coloured hooded tops, black baseball caps and surgical masks on their faces. Enquiries are at an early stage and officers are working to determine what has been taken from each location.
